Phoenix weather is classified as subtropical dry, with tremendously hot summers and warm winters. Average summer high temperatures have been recorded as the hottest of any in the United States after Death Valley. Scorching temperatures of 38°C and higher are experienced on an average of 110 days during the year, usually occurring between late May through early September, while for roughly around 18 days Phoenix weather is tempered by temperatures that soar to 43 °C.

Precipitation levels are light during a large division of the summer, but the arrival of monsoonal moisture, which usually begins in early July and remains until mid-September have an immense influence on the patterns of Phoenix weather; raised humidity levels can cause profound local rainfall and flooding occasionally. The total average annual amount of precipitation is 210 mm. The wettest month of the year is March with an average of 27 mm with June being the driest at just 2 mm. Winter storms travelling further inland from the Pacific Ocean occasionally create noteworthy precipitation but occur infrequently.
Weather in Phoenix is characteristically filled with sun-drenched day for the majority of the year; however these fine spells are often accompanied by high winds. During this time of the year, Phoenix weather is characterized by rather scarce rainfall, although thunderstorms are occasionally present during July and September, the influence by humid air blowing in from the Gulf of California being the factor responsible for this phenomenon.
Weather in Phoenix during the winter’s season is characterized by mild, sunny days, with the occasional hazy overcast day. When October rolls in, Phoenix weather begins to cool off, and temperatures becoming increasingly milder with the onset of November, remaining so all the way through to April. Average daily temperatures for winter are 18-22°C with the minimum low rarely dropping below 4 °C. Winter storms travelling further inland from the Pacific Ocean bring amble amounts of precipitation to the area, despite their rather infrequent appearance.
Although Phoenix has on the odd occasion experience snowfall, the phenomenon remains an extremely rare visitor to the city; frost on the other hand during winter is frequent. Mid December is the month when the first frost appears, and remains until the first week in February.
